How do I order?

Bee-In-Your Bonnet bakes every single loaf to order, which means that we only take pre-orders. Our weekly menu is released on Saturday mornings at 10:30 am on both Facebook and Instagram. You can then send a message on Facebook or through the website chat, call, or text. We will confirm your order, help you select a pick-up time, and then you'll wait for our Friday pick-up day to receive your bread!

Okay, but what about the extras?

While we do bake to order, we make sure to bake in quantities that leave us a little space in case something goes wrong. This means that we sometimes have what we call "extras." Extras are made available on Facebook at 10:30 am on Fridays and are first come, first serve. Just as above:

Do you offer gluten free sourdough?

Not at this time. Our kitchen isn't able to produce truly gluten-free sourdough because of the high potential for cross-contamination. Many who have gluten sensitivities have found our bread to be gluten-friendly, but we cannot claim that our bread is safe or friendly for people who are gluten intolerant.

Is sourdough more digestion friendly?

Sourdough bread is often considered more digestion-friendly for some individuals when compared to conventional bread made with commercial yeast. This is primarily due to the fermentation process involved in making sourdough bread.

Here are a few reasons why sourdough bread might be easier on digestion:

  1. Prebiotic and Probiotic Benefits: Sourdough bread undergoes a lengthy fermentation process, during which beneficial bacteria, such as lactobacilli and wild yeast strains, break down some of the complex carbohydrates and proteins. This can make the bread easier to digest and may provide some prebiotic and probiotic benefits for gut health.

  2. Reduced Gluten Content: While not entirely gluten-free, sourdough bread often contains less gluten than conventional bread. Some people with mild gluten sensitivities find that they can tolerate sourdough bread better due to the fermentation process partially breaking down gluten.

  3. Lower Phytate Levels: The fermentation process can also reduce the phytate content in sourdough bread. Phytates can interfere with the absorption of certain minerals, and their reduction through fermentation can enhance mineral bioavailability.

  4. Lower Glycemic Index: Sourdough bread typically has a lower glycemic index compared to some other bread types, which may help stabilize blood sugar levels and provide a more sustained release of energy.

However, it's important to note that individual responses to sourdough bread can vary. Some people with severe gluten intolerance or celiac disease should still avoid sourdough because it does contain gluten. Additionally, the specific benefits of sourdough can depend on the length of fermentation and the quality of ingredients used.

If you have concerns about digestion or dietary restrictions, it's a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional or a registered dietitian who can provide personalized guidance based on your unique needs and preferences.

How often does your menu change?

Our menu changes weekly! Some items may carry over from week to week but most of them will change. We also offer completely different menus for holiday pickups.

Why do I have to order so far ahead?

Sourdough is not the sort of thing you can really order for instant gratification. To make one loaf of true sourdough can take 3-5 days to feed our starter, go through fermentation, work in any mix-ins, bake, and then cool to the appropriate temperature before it can be packaged. The wait isn't for everyone but we can say that we think its definitely worth it.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, credit, and debit at the time of pickup! Large orders do require an advance payment.

How do I keep my Artisan loaf fresh? How long will it last?

Because of higher acidity, the lactobacillus bacteria produce natural antifungal compounds allowing the Sourdough bread to have a longer shelf life. We have kept our Sourdough bread from 4 to 5 days on our counter at room temperature.  Now this is also relative to what type of bread you purchased from us, there are times when the add-in ingredients can cause the bread to perish sooner.
After the 5th day, the bread is good for toasting or use as bread crumbs, french toast....
We recently used the Caramelized Onion and Sage bread as bread crumbs in our meatloaf and OH MY GOODNESS!
The best way to store the bread is to freeze it. We will often slice the entire loaf, slip in small pieces of parchment paper in between the slices, and freeze the entire loaf in a zipper bag. This allows us to pull out a slice or two when we are ready to enjoy some. It thaws quickly or can be toasted from frozen. It freezes beautifully and tastes as fresh as the day it was baked.
Above all else, do not refrigerate the Sourdough Bread, it produces an unpleasant result and dries the bread out.
I hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any questions, we are always happy to talk about bread!
